Christmas Blog

It has been a busy month here in Kaikoura with the beginning of our summer tourist season which has meant an increased work load and visitor numbers. In the next few months visitors will reach an overwhelming amount as everyone wants a piece of Kaikoura’s coastline and its treasures over summer, reaping rewards for all those involved, but limiting our spare time and successful adventures!

Our dear friends Karla and Pom came to the rescue by inviting us along on their staff Christmas party, which took us on a two night / three day camp out down the coast at a seaside camping ground called Peketa, approximately a 15 minute drive south. There was no hesitation from us, any chance for a quick break before Christmas with funny, fantastic friends. I think this month the photos tell the story better than I ever could. Great food, fishing and amazing people.

So our outdoor adventures began. We took  young Jake on his first ever deep water river crossing on his motor bike and achieved a very wet but successful outcome plus he caught his first hoki surfcasting.

Everyone enjoyed 4 year old Jack explaining to a captivated audience of adults in great details the difference between the sexes of the crayfish and how they make babies {priceless}.

Young molly and her friend Catlin stand proud with dad’s prized catch of the day, a yummy piece of rig.

The kids used their gathering skills to find some rather large huhu grubs that you see young Aynsly trying to chow down on his Ridgeline plate! To everyone’s surprise they disappeared later that evening - just hope the kids didn’t set them free in the broccoli  salad!

Pictured here is birthday boy Byron - he's wearing my favourite blaze Quiet-Tex Mallard Jacket hiding his dad’s crayfish in its fantastic sized pockets.

Last but not least, Stevie and her proud catch the amazing jelly fish.

All this hard work lead to us all to making many a toast to good old Saint Nick. As for Rudolf, he was fantastic on the hot plate of the BBQ with the treats from the sea!

Now to this month’s must have for Christmas! This would have to be THE LITTLE CRITTERS PACK....this baby includes nippers jacket, tussock trousers, tumbleweed tee, a beanie, kids camo cap and their very own Ridgeline mug, all for a great price of $89.99. Like the box said amazing value!

So bottoms up everyone, stay safe and have yourselves a merry little Christmas and a dam safe and happy New Year.

The Ridgeline Family.

Lisa, Michael, Jake, Stevie, and Jack
